Antimicrobial Activity of Silver-Zeolite LTA on Heavily-Contaminated Underground Ghanaian Waters

چکیده
Zeolite LTA was synthesized in the laboratory and loaded with silver ions by isomorphous substitution technique. The silverloaded zeolite A (Ag-LTA) was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. XRD and SEM analysis showed little or no changes in the phase purity of all zeolites before and after ion exchange or before and after substitution of silver ions. The antimicrobial activity of the silver-loaded zeolite A was investigated by exposing well water samples from Vui community in the Volta Region of Ghana. Parameters such pH, conductivity and temperature as well as microbial analysis were measured before and after addition of silverzeolite LTA. Profile of the pre-treated water samples showed total and fecal coliforms were between and respectively whereas Escherichia coli were observed to be between . After exposure to silver-zeolite LTA, all microbial indicator organisms fell below the Minimum Detection Level (MDL) of . Consequently, silver-zeolite LTA could well be a viable antimicrobial agent in the elimination of microbial indicator organisms.

Antimicrobial efficacy and longevity of silver+zeolite incorporating preinsulated ducts installed in real healthcare settings.
OBJECTIVE The values of microbial growth in the air exiting from the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) ducts treated with silver/zeolite have been shown to be lower than those in the air coming out the traditional metal ones. This study aims to verify how long this antimicrobial activity lasts. METHODS All the tests were performed according to US ASTM E2180-01 and ISO-JIZ 22196...

A goal of our study was to find an alternative to nano-silver-based antimicrobial materials which would contain active silver immobilized in a solid matrix that prevents its migration into the surrounding environment. In this study, we investigated whether silver cations dispersed in an atomic form and trapped in an ion-exchanged zeolite show comparable antimicrobial activity to silver nanopart...

Stainless steel surfaces coated with paints containing a silver- and zinc-containing zeolite (AgION antimicrobial) were assayed in comparison to uncoated stainless steel for antimicrobial activity against vegetative cells and spores of three Bacillus species, namely, B. anthracis Sterne, B. cereus T, and B. subtilis 168. Under the test conditions (25 degrees C and 80% relative humidity), the ze...
